Town
Alsasua (in Spanish; Altsasu in Basque; official name: Altsasu/Alsasua) is a town located in the autonomous community of Navarre, northern Spain. Its population in 2017 was 7,419. The Battle of Alsasua took place here in 1834. 30 years later the town turned into a railway hub, transforming its demography, economy, and cultural landscape. In 2016, a fight erupting in a bar escalated into an Audiencia Nacional judicial case that stirred the town. The bus and coach building company Sunsundegui had its factory in the town and was a major local employer, but the company closed in 2025.

What almost never fails in a village like Altsasu/Alsasua.
From a wood-fired oven if you're lucky; ask what time the batch comes out.
There's almost always a cheesemaker nearby; the local shop will know which one.
From local beekeepers: wildflower or rosemary, depending on the hills.
Almost every village has its market day and its producers: the cheesemaker, the baker, the vegetable garden next door. Ask at the tourist office or the bar on the square; they'll tell you where to buy straight from the maker.
We haven't confirmed Altsasu/Alsasua's market day. Every village has its own: better to ask than to make it up.
