Mountain village
Medina del Campo is a town and municipality of Spain located in the autonomous community of Castile and León. Part of the Province of Valladolid, it is the centre of a farming area.
It lies on the banks of the Zapardiel river, in the central part of the Douro basin. Initially a Berber settlement, it was repopulated after 1085. By the 12th century the walled town had become a major population centre of the Kingdom of Castile, drawing large-scale trading operations. It was later granted right to hold its well-known free fairs, which attracted a notable presence of international dealers.
It is located on the A-6 road route.

What people eat in Castilla y León when they eat well.
Suckling lamb in a wood-fired oven, with salad and local red wine.
Rice and onion, griddled until crisp.
Hard-paste Castilian cured cheese; with candeal bread and a young red.
Ribera, Toro, Bierzo: several serious wine appellations in the region.
Almost every village has its market day and its producers: the cheesemaker, the baker, the vegetable garden next door. Ask at the tourist office or the bar on the square; they'll tell you where to buy straight from the maker.
We haven't confirmed Medina del Campo's market day. Every village has its own: better to ask than to make it up.
